Review for Toxic By Rachel Van Dyken

5 Stars

#1 Best Seller in Sports Romance

Everyone has a secret...

Gabe Hyde is on borrowed time. He's been hiding his identity for over four years-hidden from the world that used to adore him--obsess over him--driven to the edge of insanity by one poor choice.
But that one choice, altered the course of his life forever.
Pretending isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when pretending means hiding your real self from the people that care about you the most. But if anyone ever discovered the truth it wouldn't just be his life at risk--but hers.

Saylor doesn't hate men.
Just Gabe.
Only Gabe.
He's a reckless, happy-go-lucky, silver spoon fed pain in her ass. Everything about him makes her more and more confused. Unfortunately they both donate time at the same Group Home. If she wasn't afraid of flunking, she'd be long gone. She hates that she's attracted to him almost as much as he hates that he's attracted to her--and she can tell, especially since their first encounter ended up making her knees so weak she couldn't form coherent sentences for weeks afterwards. But the closer she gets to him, the more confused she becomes. He isn't who he says he is, and he's hiding something big.

What happen when two worlds collide? Two worlds that never should have met in the first place? Some secrets are too big to be hidden forever--the only question? Will his destroy everyone he loves? Or finally bring about the redemption he's been craving for the past four years?

Everyone has a secret...What's yours?

My Review

Gabe is so lost within himself. He is trying so hard to be someone he isn't and it is killing him. He is coming close to destroying his true self over what happened four years ago. He has so many secrets that it is eating him alive. Gabe is very loving and he will do anything for his friends. Kristen, Wes, and Lisa are his only true friends in this world. He will do anything and everything for them! Gabe is turning over a new leaf, due to almost losing his best-friend Wes. He is no longer sleeping with any and every girl who crosses his path. He drowns himself in women, so he can temporarily free his mind from his past and now he is done with that. His friends love him so much and they just want to help him with whatever it is that is going on inside him. He pushes them away, more and more. Well all but 1 person, who seems to see right through him! But boy oh boy she only knows a small piece of him.

Saylor is a very sweet young lady who is dedicated to be great at playing the piano so she can graduate and get a job to help support her mother and brother. Saylor is all about practicing and not having a social life at all. So she pretty much studies and practices. She is determined not to lose her scholarship, period. Then one day she hears the most beautiful heart-breaking song on the piano. She runs into Gabe aka her hot stranger. Gabe sees how his presents is affecting Saylor and goes straight in for the kill and kisses her. He has that way on woman but Saylor isn't just any woman. She will not be like the other women in his book, shall we say. Saylor helps save Gabe in more ways than one. He has affected her so very much, but her heart is bigger than that. I am sorry but that is all I can say, because I don't want to give it all away. No spoiling here! Wink. Wink.

I loved and adored Ruin. I mean who does like Wes's story. But my oh my Gabe is one hot, dark, loving, train wreck. This book had me thinking what the heck is going on. Rachel Van Dyken doesn't disappointment! I didn't see any of this coming, not one piece of it. It is crazy and your mouth will be hanging wide open, just as I did. It is crazy that this story comes full circle with characters. It is something amazing I can tell you that!

My heart breaks for Gabe in this story, so much grief that he holds in his heart and he is slowly killing his own heart. He is trapped in what happened four years ago and he is running out of time. I wanted to cry, hit something, yell, and so much more while reading this book. This book had me at the very first word, but then again I fell head over heels in love with Gabe in Ruin.

My favorite part of this book is...Here is a small teaser for you. (and again I can't stress this enough, this is my favorite part, yes I was all smiles when I read this part)

"From there, the conversation quickly fell to the Seahawks. "Russell Wilson." Eric sighed dreamily then pointed a fork in my direction. He's better than Tom Brady. My mom chose that moment to open the door. She was in her pink nurse scrubs and looked like she'd had a bit of a rough day. Eric, how dare you say something against my Patriot! She grinned and put her hands on her hips."

This book is a must read and you have to get your hands on this book like as soon as it comes out!!! So please read Ruin first! I promise you will not be disappointed what so ever when reading Gabe's story. Oh and don't forget about Fearless (Ruin Series 2.5) Coming out March 9th, 2014
