Review: That's a Promise by Victoria Klahr

Pain isn’t new to me.

I’ve been to hell only to find it never really leaves when you get back. It haunts me through nightmares, unrequited love, lies, broken hearts, and now death.

A monster almost took my life.
My best friend carries half my soul a world away.
My boyfriend broke my heart but refuses to let me go.
And my father is dead.

I don’t believe in fate and I don’t believe in happily-ever-afters, but for some reason, I still hope.

Live, even with a tainted spirit.
Long for my other half to come back to me.
Risk another broken heart, just to feel loved again.
And refuse to let another horror break me.

In the face of my most recent tragedy, I have to decide whether forgiveness is something I can give. But even if that’s an option, can I be forgiven?

My 5 star review
Jo is an incredible character. I loved everything about her and connected with her on a whole other level. She is this smarty, sassy, stubborn, beautiful girl. Then one day a monster broke her, stealing a piece of her soul at the same time. Since then she has let herself fade away and has stayed in the background. But then she starts to feel again and well she isn't whole but she is getting there.
Now, Seth is Jo's best friend and they have been best friends since they can both remember. He is very important to Jo and he will do anything for her. Jo loves him and he loves her but they are best friends. Are they willing to put that friendship at risk to get involved? Or will they remain just friends? Or will that friendship be the starting flames of what could be an amazing relationship??
But then there is Blake Porter, a guy that every girl wants. He is a complete gentleman and well yes some may say he is a player. But hey if you know she isn’t the one why stick around when you can keep looking. And then he found her and her name is Jo. Yep you got that right…a love triangle at its finest. Who will be the one to actually mend her soul? Her best friend…or… the guy that came along and stole her heart?
BUT... like any romance and love story fate always likes to intervene. He likes to kick our ass and test us to our limits.
Now that is just a bit of a background of some of the characters within in this book. But for you to get to know them and the rest of them you will need to go and check this book out yourself. A girl can’t spoil everything for you.
I for one loved this book. That’s a Promis makes me smile, sigh, laugh, and cry. There is so many things going on every turn of a page. And you get to a point where you want this to happen and then that happens but with a twist. I was like OMG freaking shank me now. I literally started reading this book at 12:00am and finished at 3:00am. I even had to re-read some chapters because they were so damn good.
And let me tell you, when you read That’s a Promise you will feel the pain that these characters are feeling, it is crazy and amazing at the same time. I mean my heart broke for all of them Jo, Seth, and Blake. Oh man and the lies…oh the lies and the secrets were enough to give me a damn ulcer while reading through each page.
Listen People!!! When I say this book is good it is damn good, I promise. I love it and I can't wait for book two.
So with all that being said…Victoria Klahr, thank you for taking me on this emotional ride and making me fall in love with all of your characters. I love both Seth and Blake! However, if I were in Jo’s place and had to chose, Blake would be my choice. So it’s safe to say I am officially team Blake!
