Surviving Love (Sulfur Heights #4)
By
“She is my heart and the other half of my life, and now, that life
no longer exists." ~Drake Evans, Surviving Love
For Drake Evans, life was once happy. He was living the kind of existence that any man would envy. By his side was the woman he loved and a daughter he cherished. Life was truly perfect, until the day demons from the past came crashing into their perfect world, destroying everything he had been so sure would last forever.
Today, Drake’s life is shrouded in misery. Every day he faces the unyielding pain of losing the love of his life at the hands of a drug dealing murderer. On top of it all, he has to live with the anguishing betrayal caused by the devastating role his brother played in Presley’s death. Gone are the days of carefree happiness and impending futures. They've all been replaced with the shallow emptiness hollowing out his heart and the undeniable rage pumping through his veins. Drake is only moving through the motions of life, raising his daughter and earning a living, in the only way he can tolerate—alone.
Since the day she was banished from her family, Zoe Ledoux lives her life as a free spirit. For the past four years, Zoe’s been moving through life day by day, place by place. She never stays in one area long enough to establish relationships. She refuses to get close to anyone, protecting herself from the fear of once again being left behind. Then a turn of fate sends her to Sulfur Heights where she lands a job working as a bartender.
In a chance meeting, an instant connection forms, bringing together the wounded souls of Drake and Zoe. It is together that they begin to cope; to mend the brokenness of their pasts and feel what it is like to truly live again. However, will their newly formed friendship be enough to pull Drake and Zoe from their dark pasts? Can Drake overcome the fear of losing someone he loves and eradicate his anger just enough to let someone in? Will he learn that Surviving Love with Zoe is what he ultimately needs in order to be happy?
**This is a continuation of Tragic Love**

My
5 star review
This
book is just as hard to read as Drake and Presley’s story. I love how M.S.
Brannon continues where their story leaves off. I have to say, I did cry in
this book a couple of times. This book is one of those books where you just
want to hold next to your heart and pray that this stuff never happens to you.
But life sucks and we all know that we are never ready for life to smack us in
the face. I don’t want to go too much into this story because I don’t want to
give it all away. I am very happy with this book; except the ending is killing
me and now I need to start Redeemed Love.
Drake
is still my favorite out of all the men in this series. He is the one that I
want to see come out on top. I mean being sold for heroin at three years old,
then having the love of his life and the mother of his child die in his arms.
How could he not be, this character will most definitely take up residency in
your heart.
Zoe
is a brave, hard ass woman. If she was a real person I would have so much
respect for her that it isn’t even funny. I really like this character and I
feel bad for her. Her whole family thinks she is nothing but a whore and kicks
her out of the family. So Zoe has been on her own for quite a while now, barely
has enough money, so she decides that Sulfur Heights is the cheapest place she
can go.
Zoe
is the new bartender at Reggie’s bar and Drake sees her there and feels some
sort of a pull towards her. This makes Drake very upset and he feels as if he
is betraying Presley. God, I love this man. Something tragic happens and Drake
and Zoe become friends. She tries to bring him back to the world of the living,
but he is still heartbroken over Presley. Does she succeed in bringing him back
to the living world? Can Drake overcome his heartache and pursue the feelings
he has developed for Zoe? Grab the book and read for yourself. You won’t regret
reading this series.
I
can say that this is an amazing story and it is written perfectly. There isn’t
one thing that I, as a reader, would change. The ending is set up perfectly for
Jeremy’s story which, I am excited and nervous to start.
